AI care systems are the software and sensing layer that sits around older adults — fall detection, activity monitoring, predictive alerts, scheduling and care-plan tooling. The vendors in this category are not interchangeable: some sell sensors into a resident’s room, some sell workforce software to an agency, and some sell a clinical platform to a care home operator.
A care management app records what staff did and helps them organise visits and documentation. An AI care system also watches for change — through sensors or wearables — and raises an alert when a pattern in activity, sleep or movement looks wrong. The distinction matters when you are deciding whether a platform will produce care work or prevent it.
Several vendors in this category use radar or environmental sensors specifically to avoid both. The trade-off is coverage: a passive sensor stays inside the room it is installed in, so multi-room or wandering detection depends on how many units you install and where.
Ask each vendor for the same three things: the event they detect, the false-alarm rate over the last twelve months, and the name of the party who measured that figure. A claim with no named measurement party cannot be compared with one that has one.
