The Gerontech and Innovation Expo cum Summit returns for its 10th edition, with an online summit on 29 and 30 October 2026 and an in-person expo at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre in Wan Chai from 17 to 20 December 2026. It is jointly hosted by the Hong Kong government and the Hong Kong Council of Social Service.
What GIES 2026 is, and when it runs
The Gerontech and Innovation Expo cum Summit, known as GIES, describes itself as the largest gerontechnology public education event in Hong Kong. It is jointly hosted by the Hong Kong government and the Hong Kong Council of Social Service and co-organised with the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation, and the organisers date it to 2017 (GIES).
The 2026 edition runs in two parts. An online summit runs on 29 and 30 October 2026. The in-person expo runs from 17 to 20 December 2026 in Halls 1A to 1C at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre in Wan Chai.

Registration for the online summit is open on the GIES website (GIES summit registration). At the time of writing the summit had not yet taken place, so this piece describes the announced programme and not an outcome.
The 10th edition
The Hong Kong Council of Social Service, which runs the GIES secretariat, describes the 2026 expo as "The 10th Edition of flagship gerontechnology event", in a notice published on 17 June 2026 (HKCSS, Save the Date). A decade is a fair measure of whether an event has held its ground, and it is the organisers' own figure rather than an outside assessment.
What the 2025 edition looked like
The 2025 expo ran from 20 to 23 November 2025 in Halls 1A to 1C at the same venue. The organisers publish the following figures for it (GIES 2025).
| Measure | GIES 2025 figure |
|---|
| Attendees | About 37,000 |
| Exhibitors | 270 or more |
| Innovation products and solutions | 1,000 |
| Workshops and activities | 55 or more |
| Media reports | 130 or more |
Those are the organiser's own figures for its own event. They describe attendance and exhibition scale, not results. The page does not state what a visitor or a service unit went on to buy, adopt or change after attending.
Why a public expo carries weight in gerontech
The adoption of gerontechnology in Hong Kong runs through subsidised service units and through families, and both groups tend to meet a product at an event before they meet it in a flat. The 2025 edition ran a themed pavilion the organisers titled "AI Driving Smart Ageing Futures", which is where SI (Superintelligence) · AI (artificial intelligence) care products were grouped (the organisers' 2025 expo page). The suppliers behind that floor are the rehabilitation services and care technology companies Agetide lists.
A floor of working devices is a useful starting point and an incomplete one. What an expo cannot show is the part this desk keeps returning to: who fits the sensor, who answers the alert, what the false alarm rate feels like to a real carer, and what happens when the network drops. Adoption begins on an exhibition floor and is decided months later in a household. Agetide's guide to mobility aids covers one of the product classes that fills a GIES floor.
How to take part
- Online summit, 29 and 30 October 2026: registration is on the GIES website.
- Expo, 17 to 20 December 2026, Halls 1A to 1C at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre in Wan Chai.
- Enquiries about the programme go to the GIES secretariat, which sits with the Hong Kong Council of Social Service.
The organisers' page states the dates and the venue. It does not state the expo admission fee, and this piece does not assume one.
What to watch
- The published summit programme, and whether the sessions are archived afterwards as the 2025 sessions were.
- Whether the 2026 expo publishes post-event figures in the same shape as the 2025 set, so the two can be compared honestly.
- Which product categories occupy the floor, and whether household-use devices appear alongside the institutional equipment, following the widening of the Innovation and Technology Fund to cover household-use products.
